Ensuring the safe and secure delivery of your parcels
To ensure the safety and integrity of your parcels, Mauritius Post follows strict guidelines standards:
Strong cover
Parcels must be enclosed in a robust cover, securely fastened to prevent loss or damage of contents and to protect other postal packets from potential damage.
Brittle or fragile contents
If the parcel contains brittle items, it must be clearly marked with the word "Brittle" or "Fragile" on the cover.
Precious or heavy Items
For parcels containing precious articles or heavy goods, they must be packed in a sturdy metal or wooden case with a minimum thickness of one centimeter.
Dry coloring powder
Parcels containing dry coloring powder must be packed in two containers:
- The inner container is made of stout metal.
- The outer container is made of wood, with an absorbent material like sawdust or bran between the two containers.
Liquids or liquefiable substances
For parcels containing liquids or substances likely to liquefy, they must be packed in two containers:
- The outer container is made of metal or strong wood.
- An absorbent material like sawdust or bran between the two containers.
Sender information
The parcel must bear the sender's name and address either on the cover or on a securely attached label.
Proper use of postage stamps
To ensure your mail is processed without issues, postage stamps must be affixed with a space between each so they do not hide any injuries to the cover. Stamps should not be folded over the edge of the cover and must be placed in the top right-hand corner of the envelope.
Convenient Business Reply Service (BRS)
Business Reply Service (BRS) allows companies to cover return postage costs, enabling recipients to respond to mailings without paying for postage. This system simplifies and enhances business communication, as the sender covers the costs upon receiving the reply.
Flexible poste restante service
Poste Restante is a postal service that holds mail at the post office until the recipient collects it. Ideal for travelers or those without a fixed address, inland mail unclaimed for over a month is managed per regulation, while international mail unclaimed for over two months is returned to the sender.
Reliable telegram service
A telegram is a written message transmitted via telegraph and delivered to the recipient’s address or a designated post office. Charges vary based on the type and additional services like retransmission or address alteration. Each word is counted for billing, with specific rules for figures, names, and punctuation. Delivered in a sealed envelope with a recipient’s signature, undelivered telegrams are kept for one month before further action.
Ordinary item certificate of posting
A Certificate of Posting is issued by the postal service upon request when sending a postal packet. It serves as proof that the sender has deposited the item for delivery, including details like the date of posting and the sender’s name and address. While it does not offer tracking or delivery confirmation, it provides evidence that the sender has fulfilled their obligation to mail the item.
Secure registered letter service
A registered letter provides additional security and tracking for important or valuable items. It comes with a unique tracking number and a receipt for proof of mailing. The letter is tracked at each stage, requiring the recipient’s signature upon delivery, ensuring it reaches the intended person. This service often includes insurance, offering compensation for loss or damage, making it ideal for legal documents, important correspondence, and valuable items.
