Standards and best practices for secure shipments

Conditions of parcel acceptance

Make-Up and Packing Requirements

General packing conditions

Every parcel must be appropriately packed and sealed according to its weight, shape, and contents, as well as the transport method and duration. Packaging should protect contents from crushing or damage and show clear signs of tampering if it occurs.

Parcels must be securely packed, especially if they:
  • will be transported over long distances;
  • require multiple transfers or handling;
  • need protection from significant changes in climate, temperature, or, for air transport, atmospheric pressure variations.

Packaging should ensure the safety of postal officials, prevent injury, and avoid contaminating or damaging other parcels or equipment.

There should be ample space for service instructions, stamps, and labels.

Fragile items, like glassware, must be packed in sturdy boxes with protective materials to prevent movement or impact during transport

Specific packing conditions for fragile items

Fragile items must be packed in robust boxes with appropriate cushioning. This minimizes movement and impacts during transport, protecting the items from damage. Packaging should prevent any friction or knocks between the items and the box.
