On that occasion, the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Hon. Deepak Balgobin unveiled a Commemorative Plate in the presence of several personalities, including the Chief Government Whip, Mr Rameswar Doolub; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mr Serge Gilbert Bablee; the Chairman of the Mauritius Post Limited (MPL), Mr Rana Swamber; and the Chief Executive Officer of the MPL, Mr Vijay Ramchurn, amongst others.
In his address, Minister Balgobin emphasised that the opening of the fourth Parcel Post Centre within Courts stores is part of a broader initiative to enhance postal services, following the recent launch at Phoenix Mall. He further announced that several other openings are planned, including locations in Bel Air and Riche Terre Courts Mammouth. The new Parcel Post Centre, he stated, will provide all postal services except for pension payments, ensuring accessibility for all, with elevator facilities available for elderly individuals.
Highlighting the Mauritius Post’s commitment to innovation, Hon. Deepak Balgobin stressed that this new facility represents a significant step toward revolutionising the delivery of parcels and eCommerce items. A key feature of the Centre will be the dedicated commerce hub, designed to handle both international and domestic parcel deliveries efficiently, he added. He further reassured that this hub will enable the public to collect their items with ease, recognising the diverse work hours of modern consumers and allowing them to pick up parcels after traditional office hours. Moreover, Hon. Deepak Balgobin noted that these new operational hours reflect the Mauritius Post’s responsibility to meet the needs of Mauritian citizens, providing greater flexibility in parcel collection. He also pointed out the advantages of this modern postal concept, including the anticipated reduction in traffic at neighbouring Post Offices due to the centralisation of eCommerce services. This will facilitate decongestion and improve service quality, while the public will benefit from available parking facilities at the new Centre, he added.
The event showcased a commitment to innovation and excellence in the delivery services sector ensuring customers receive more efficient and reliable delivery services thanks to the increased capacity of the Parcel Centres in Mauritius.

The post office will thus be relocated a few meters further during the restoration work. This renovation project, which should be completed within three months, will include a total renovation of the exterior (replacement of shingles, identical, etc.). Work on the rock walls must be carried out in order to expose this magnificent emblematic stone of Mauritius. Inside, the electrical system will be brought up to standard, a new floor covering will be put in place, a rehabilitation of the sanitary facilities is also planned. La Poste has planned to redevelop the public work and reception areas.
